Ritu Kumar: Dressing the Stars

When it comes to celebrity fashion, Ritu Kumar continues to be one of Bollywood’s most loved designer. She has been a firm favourite with the stars for over five decades, whether it is dressing yesteryear sensations like Sharmila Tagore or current icons such as Priyanka Chopra.

This year was no different. Whether it was wowing on the red carpets or flaunting casual looks, Ritu Kumar ruled celebrity wardrobes with her signature style that is known for its timeless elegance and glamour.

From movie launches to award ceremonies and social gatherings, leading Bollywood fashionistas such as Kareena Kapoor Khan, Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin, Aditi Rao Hyderi, Diana Penty, Genelia Deskhmukh and Paolami Dam, made a style statement in Ritu Kumar outfits.

Commenting on what it is like to dress celebrities, Ritu Kumar said, “The interesting part of celebrity dressing is that a whole dimension opens to the look and style of the collection as the film star or celebrity adds a character to the outfit, which imbues her character. Most stars have also an attitude which helps enhance the designer’s interpretation as well”.
Ritu Kumar now has two stores in Dubai with the outlet in Festival City Mall primarily housing Label Ritu Kumar line. It mainly caters to women who love to look good and are in search for Indian soul and traditions, as well as quality craftsmanship, in their garments. The target market is sophisticated young women.
